How we used User Experience Design to improve inventory management and enhance the customer experience at food banks.
Create a simple, easy-to-use product that requires minimal training time and helps volunteers manage the food bank.
After spending four days with volunteers and beneficiaries, I realized that the challenge was not only logistical, but also human. The lack of information about users resulted in generic baskets that were disconnected from their real needs. This led me to understand that the application needed to function both as a management tool and as a facilitator of empathy.
After qualitative research with volunteers and users, three main pain points were identified.
Lack of inventory control and expiration dates.
Lack of knowledge and contact with the people who pick up food from the bank.
The food baskets are all prepared with the same products, but the users' needs are different.
Based on the users interviewed and the volunteers, two personas were created to understand their difficulties and obstacles.
Based on the persona, the user journey was also created to understand how the donation process works and to find opportunities and ideas.
