How we use User Experience Design to understand behaviors and identify opportunities to encourage donations.
Briefing
Our main goal is to combat hunger and help people in need to have better living conditions, with the kindness of people who like to help.
We have two challenges:
How can we help people realize their possessions that are no longer needed and encourage them to donate to those who really need them?
How can we help people who have food that will be discarded to identify this before it expires so they can consume or donate it in time?
It is important that people can communicate through the app and that the process is secure and reliable.
In addition, other partners must be able to connect to our database and display donation opportunities on totems, big screens, billboards, or any other creative strategies so that people who do not have cell phones can also learn about donation offers near where they live.
Create an app-based solution that encourages people to donate;
Present various initiatives and different NGOs where people can donate or volunteer;
Use gamification elements to encourage and engage people.
The solution is an app where people can find different types of NGOs by searching for the item they want to donate, the type of NGO, or the neighborhood. It is also possible to find social initiatives and social work to participate in, create groups for joint donations or social initiatives.
A Business Canvas was created to provide a macro view of the system.
This causes a problem for people who live on the streets and experience food insecurity because, although many people waste food and objects and throw them away, people in need do not have access to these products. This is important because food and objects are being wasted.
To better visualize the value propositions, a Value Proposition Canvas was created.
Benchmarking was carried out to find out if there were any solutions similar to the proposed idea, and I saw that, in addition to there being few solutions, they have very few features, and most only accept cash donations or make donations from individuals to individuals, which does not benefit NGOs. I also did not find any apps that provide information about social actions and volunteer work.

I created a CSD matrix to see my main questions and assumptions in order to create a form for the survey.
For this sample, desirable characteristics were not chosen, as the intention of the research was to understand people's behavior in general. Therefore, only fundamental and non-priority characteristics were chosen for the sample.
Based on the survey results, I created a persona based on the profile and responses received. From this persona, we can begin to understand how future users think and what their difficulties and obstacles are when making donations or considering volunteer work.
Based on the persona, the user journey was also created to understand how the donation process works and to find opportunities and ideas.
Based on the ideas raised in the user journey and research, the solutions found were classified using an impact and effort matrix to define the most impactful and easiest to implement solutions, as well as creating a backlog with the next solutions to be implemented.
According to the Impact and Effort Matrix, I decided to prioritize high-impact, low-effort ideas and implement other ideas that require more effort later on.
